I'm really excited about my new tree and botanical series. Moving on from vases, I've decided to do some close ups of bright floral arrangements, keeping the background solid and vivid. My trees are a delight to do as well. Here, I've laid the paint down quite heavily, with a rough edge that I'm happy with.

Goodbye 2011

The sun will be setting tonight on 2011. It flew by! There will be new blooms, new sprouts in the future and I look forward to being a part of that process. Happy New Year to everyone who is a part of today.

Gallery Christmas Party

My Dad and i flew out to Laguna to enjoy the drinks and meet local collectors early this December. It was fun to meet new faces and fellow gallery artists. Dinner with everyone afterwards was excellent, as well.

Here's a pic of some of my work in the front window. The jazz was nice, but the bass was in the way a bit.

August Hopes

Garden Variety has just arrived to Laguna Signature Gallery this week. It is a very heavy painting, piled with lovely color!

Magestic Whites was sent along with this one, but it sold this past weekend, almost immediately. I was pleased with it and would like to continue a series of large square-canvased florals in the near future. I want to stick with lighter, textural backgrounds as well.

I will be sending this to Laguna soon, after I pick a frame and it is dry. I'm very pleased with the scale, and am loving the lime at the base of the painting. My oldest is so cute, and was excited to pose for the picture. She loves the painting and recommended the light blue additions. She has excellent instincts and I'm always asking her opinion. But... she wants to be a teacher when she grows up. We'll see...

4 Impressionist Favorites

The 4 older of my six are with their dad, this week. It has given me some time to finish a very large painting, which I am quite happy with. I have also been doing some home organizing and have finished several medium-sized florals, as well. Overall, I am very pleased with the batch of paintings that will soon be shipped to Laguna. There are lots of blues in various depths. I've been experimenting with outlines and am enjoying the effects very much, mainly looking at Van Goh these days.

This floral is one of my most favorite, which is a brave statement, I know, but I am a sucker for movement within still life. I am loving how the shape of each bloom pops with his use of outline.

How can I even begin to capture his subtle genius in his use of color? I am enjoying the flatter, more graphic pieces of color that speak modern to me.

I also am captured by the shapes, textures and ironic depth of Gustave Klimt. This man is ALIVE in the face of contemporary art today. I hesitate to add him to my list because I believe really objectifies the female body in much of his work, and his work has a strong element of evil that I have a difficult time calling beautiful. Though, I can't ignore the colors, textures and visually stunning emotions that his art speaks.

I am often recalling the images of Mary Cassatt. And I don't call her a favorite because she is a female Impressionist. But maybe I call her a favorite because I am female too, and I can directly relate to the feelings she captures so well. They are not overly sappy, but breathe a warmth that any mother would love to hang in her home.

What is this mom thinking this morning? My little girl is so beautiful. I wish she'd go back to bed...
As a matter of fact I think I thought this same exact thing this morning, though my two-year-old is much sweeter than this one. She has red curls.

And last but not at all least, is Degas. We see his ballerinas over and over and OVER. And it becomes contrite and boring

But there are other paintings behind the scenes that aren't as pretty but just as engaging. Degas is an artist who desires to speak a thousand words in perfect silence. His genius in doing so captures my heart. This is a level which I have not fully ventured into. This is because I am not fully versed in the human form, yet. But perhaps, someday, I can develop this. I'd love to! The little ones went to bed early, and so I had some time to enjoy writing this and enjoying my cup of citrus tea. Good night!

Haiti Fundraiser

My beloved nanny, Dara, is an incredible lady. Without her help, I can't paint or feed my children. But more than that, she is a beautiful soul. Her latest endeavor is to make it out to Haiti, inspired by people she met at a retreat who had recently been there. They told her it's still like it was the day after the quake, thanks to a wicked government who does nothing but hoard the government aid. She is one determined lady... she wants to go on their month-long mission to at least rebuild the sunken village church. What better place to start than on a place that will bring community and spiritual strength in such a desolate situation of death and ruin. Props to my nanny! She is also a young, aspring artist, much younger than me, working in watercolors. Her goal is to gather up her artwork and sell them to her many many friends and fam at a fundraiser dinner. I madly went to town on some santos icons to be sold for her there, too. I might post them on here when I get some time...

New Gallery

I've sent about 8 new paintings to Sante Fe Signature Gallery this week. I'm looking forward to this new summer art market and think it will be a nice oppurtunity for my colorful florals and graphic landscapes. Wanted to show you a couple I've sent.
